Pirates vs Phillies predictions
Looking at the Pirates heading into game 2, Joey Bart’s recent hot streak at the plate really stands out—if he can keep up that .280 batting average, he should be able to get on base once or twice and maybe even drive in a run. Oneil Cruz is always a threat with his power, and even fighting through a bit of back soreness, he’s still got that potential to go deep (and I like him for at least one extra-base hit). Don’t sleep on Bryan Reynolds either; with 20 RBIs on the season so far, he’s got a knack for clutch moments. If the Pirates want any chance at flipping the script at Citizens Bank Park, these three need to find ways to spark the offense, especially since runs have been hard to come by for Pittsburgh this month.
Meanwhile, the Phillies have a lineup that packs a punch and is hard to pitch around. Trea Turner is batting over .300 and just seems to get on base every night—he’s primed for another multi-hit game and could easily swipe a bag if given the green light. Kyle Schwarber’s power can’t be ignored, and within that cozy home environment, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him launch another one into the seats or at least drive in a couple runs. Then there’s Bryce Harper, who’s been walking a ton and still finds ways to help the Phillies score, even on nights when the long ball isn’t there. With Zack Wheeler on the mound mixing strikeouts and soft contact, it feels like the Phillies are in that perfect spot to win both at the plate and on the bump.
When all is said and done, it really feels like Philadelphia is set up to take this one and extend their series lead. The Phillies’ bats bring plenty of firepower, and with Wheeler tossing quality innings, the Pirates’ offense might just struggle to keep up. Unless Pittsburgh’s hitters break out of their funk and Mlodzinski puts together a lights-out performance, the odds are tilting heavily toward another Phillies victory. Fans in Philly should be feeling good about their team’s chances in game 2.
