Athletics vs Dodgers predictions
Looking at the Athletics lineup heading into this series-deciding game at Dodger Stadium, there are a few bats that could make things interesting. Jacob Wilson has been dialed in all season, batting a scorching .354, and I expect him to reach base a couple times tonight, maybe sneaking in a double and a run scored. Brent Rooker has shown some serious pop with 10 home runs already, so there’s always a chance he sends one into the LA night—especially in a tight, high-stakes game. Tyler Soderstrom looks primed to deliver a key RBI as well, and you can pretty much count on him notching a hit or two. On the mound, Osvaldo Bido will want to keep the Dodgers’ big sticks in check (no small task), but if he can last five solid innings and limit the damage, the A’s bullpen could keep things tight till the end.
Now, flipping over to the Dodgers, the star power doesn’t need much introduction, but let’s go there anyway. Shohei Ohtani is having another MVP-caliber campaign, and he’s got a knack for finding the gaps (and the seats)—I wouldn’t be surprised if he racks up a couple base knocks along with an extra-base hit, maybe even a home run if Osvaldo Bido leaves a pitch over the plate. Freddie Freeman has been on fire, hitting .362, and projects for another multi-hit night along with his usual RBI threat. The top of the order with Mookie Betts is just as dangerous; expect him to spark some offense with a run or two scored, drawing walks, and maybe even swiping a base. With Matt Sauer toeing the rubber, look for him to rack up strikeouts and keep things steady through five or so innings, giving the bullpen a solid foundation to work with.
When you stack up both sides, the Dodgers’ deep lineup and home field advantage feel like too much for the Athletics to overcome, even if Oakland’s offense has the firepower to keep things close. The Dodgers have been dominant at home, boasting a 16-4 record, and their ability to string together hits and draw walks just seems like the tipping point in a tight matchup like this. It wouldn’t be surprising to see LA pull away late, so I’m leaning toward the Dodgers to clinch the series with a strong all-around performance. But hey, that’s what makes MLB fun—anything can happen, right?
