Rays vs Red Sox predictions
With the Tampa Bay Rays sending Zack Littell to the mound at Fenway, there’s definitely reason for Rays fans to watch closely. Littell has been dependable in recent starts, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he works deep into the game, maybe giving up a couple of runs but keeping things competitive. Jonathan Aranda has been red-hot at the plate, and with the way he’s been seeing the ball, it wouldn't be shocking to see him collect multiple hits and maybe drive in a run. And you know Junior Caminero always seems to find the power stroke at the right time—he could easily leave the yard or at least add to his RBI tally. Tampa Bay’s aggressive baserunning (they lead the MLB in stolen bases) could also be the X-factor that puts pressure on Boston’s defense all game.
Now, swinging the focus over to the Boston Red Sox, there’s a lot of attention on Walker Buehler as he toes the rubber. If he hits his spots, he could keep the Rays’ big bats quiet, but it might be a challenge to limit damage completely. Rafael Devers, the DH powerhouse, consistently comes through with timely hits, and he looks primed to knock another ball out of the park while racking up more RBIs. Jarren Duran is another guy worth keeping tabs on—he’s got the wheels and a knack for turning singles into extra bases, so don’t be shocked if he sparks a rally with a multi-hit game and scores a couple of runs. Even with Alex Bregman sidelined, Boston still has plenty of firepower to make things interesting.
When it comes down to predicting a winner, it’s hard to ignore the slight home-field edge at Fenway and the way the Red Sox bats have been rolling lately. Although the Rays are dangerous and can change the game with their speed and timely hitting, Boston just seems to have a little more momentum, especially with Devers and Duran swinging hot bats. Expect a close game full of lead changes, but if I had to put my money down, I’m leaning toward the Red Sox squeaking out the win in this series rubber match.
