Storm vs Mercury predictions
After coming off a gritty 24-point performance by Held, the Seattle Storm are rolling into Phoenix with plenty of energy, and all eyes are on their backcourt. Skylar Diggins, who’s been averaging a solid 16.8 points and 6.4 assists per game, is sure to be a driving force for the Storm’s offense once again—don't be surprised if she puts up another stat-stuffing outing, especially if she gets off to a hot start early. Nneka Ogwumike, meanwhile, looks poised for a big night on the glass. She’s been snagging 9.0 boards per game, and considering Seattle will need second chances and defensive stands against the Mercury, her rebounding could be a game changer.
Switching gears, Phoenix fans have a lot to look forward to as well. Satou Sabally has been lighting it up with 20.3 points per contest, and given that the home crowd brings out the best in her, she could easily be in for another big scoring night. With her ability to crash the boards (8.0 rebounds per game) and serve as a playmaker, Sabally’s matchup against Seattle’s front line is one to watch. And since Phoenix has played so well at home—holding a 5-1 record at PHX Arena—you’ve got to imagine that the likes of Kahleah Copper and Natasha Cloud could provide that extra spark, especially with the Commissioner’s Cup stakes on the line.
So, who takes it? In a game where both sides are loaded with star power and motivation, it feels like the energy in Phoenix might just tip the scales. Both teams split the season series so far, but the Mercury’s strong home record and Sabally’s current run could give them the edge in a close one. Seattle’s going to keep it tight, but Phoenix may have just enough firepower—and a little home-court magic—to pull off another win in front of their fans. What do you think, will the Storm shake things up, or is Phoenix too tough at home?
