Guardians vs Athletics predictions
When it comes to the Cleveland Guardians, you can’t look past the spark plug that is Jose Ramirez. He’s been the kind of bat you want in the middle of the lineup, hitting .318 with consistent power and an ability to get on base that sets the table for the rest of the squad. I’m expecting Ramirez to stay hot in this first game, driving in at least one run and maybe sneaking in a double or two. Steven Kwan brings that signature contact ability—he doesn’t strike out much and keeps the pressure on opposing pitchers, so I think we’ll see him setting the tone at the top, possibly grabbing a multi-hit game. With Tanner Bibee taking the mound, the Guardians should feel good about their pitching; he’s been solid and I’d say he’ll keep Oakland limited to a couple of runs while striking out over five.
On the Athletics’ side, Jacob Wilson is tearing it up with a batting average north of .350, so he’s the guy you want at the dish if you’re an A’s fan. I’ve got a feeling Wilson will notch at least a couple of hits, maybe even plate a run. Brent Rooker’s pop is impossible to ignore, so look for him to be a power threat whenever he steps up, while Tyler Soderstrom should deliver with runners in scoring position—he’s been racking up RBIs and could easily add another to his tally. As for pitching, Jeffrey Springs gets the nod, and he’s usually good for five decent innings; however, if his command wavers, the Guardians’ lineup could make him pay with a few timely extra-base hits.
Add it all up and this series opener shapes up to be a fun one. While the Athletics have the bats to make things interesting, especially at home in Sutter Health Park, the Guardians just look a little steadier on the mound and have hitters who are waking up at the right time. I’m leaning toward Cleveland taking the win in game one, riding strong outings from Ramirez and the starting staff to edge out the A’s in a close battle. It’s baseball, so anything can happen, but if you’re putting me on the spot, my money’s on the Guardians to take the early series lead.
