Reds vs Phillies predictions
If you’re eyeing the Cincinnati Reds lineup, there’s a lot to be curious about as they kick off this series against the Phillies. I’m especially looking at Elly De La Cruz—he’s been the Reds’ powerhouse all season, smashing 18 homers and driving in 58 runs so far, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get on base a couple times with a hit and possibly swipe another bag. TJ Friedl is another name to watch; the dude’s been consistent at the plate, batting .281, so pencil him in for a hit or two and maybe a run scored. On the mound, Andrew Abbott is taking the ball for Cincinnati. Considering his knack for scattering hits and keeping runs in check, he could go deep into the game, likely piling up a handful of strikeouts in the process.
Over on the Philadelphia Phillies’ side, there’s a lot of firepower that could give the Reds some headaches, especially at Citizens Bank Park where the Phillies own a 28-15 record this season. Trea Turner is batting just under .300, and with his ability to spray the ball all over the field, I’m backing him to collect a multi-hit night, notch a run, and maybe tack on a stolen base. Kyle Schwarber, with his team-high 26 home runs, is always a threat to take one deep, and Bryce Harper just brings that steady presence you can’t ignore. A couple of those guys getting on in front of Schwarber? That could spell trouble for the Reds’ pitching. And don’t overlook Jesus Luzardo on the mound; I think he’s got enough to keep the Reds’ bats from heating up, striking out plenty along the way.
As for who’s coming out on top, I’ve got to lean towards the Phillies in this opener. Their balanced lineup just looks a little deeper top-to-bottom, particularly at home where they thrive. Abbott might keep things close early for Cincinnati, but the Phillies’ offense has a knack for making things happen in the middle innings. Throw in Luzardo’s ability to keep hitters guessing, and Philly feels like the safer pick to grab the first game in this three-game set. Reds fans—never say never, but the Phillies just have too much going for them in front of their home crowd.
