White Sox vs Cubs predictions
Looking at the Chicago White Sox lineup, it’s definitely a tough climb as they roll into Wrigley trying to shake off a three-game road slide. With Jonathan Cannon getting the start on the mound, I’m expecting he’ll give the Sox a solid but not overpowering outing—around five innings with a few earned runs scattered in, and maybe three or four strikeouts as he tries to keep a potent Cubs lineup in check. At the plate, Lenyn Sosa has quietly been their most consistent hitter, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ropes a couple base hits and finds a way to get on the board. Luis Robert and Miguel Vargas both have the pop to put a charge in the ball, so don’t sleep on either making a little noise, but the real challenge will be whether the lineup can actually cash in with runners on base.
The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, bring a lineup that’s just plain rolling right now. You can practically pencil in Pete Crow-Armstrong for a multi-hit game and at least a shot at going yard, given how hot he’s been in May. He’s been the straw stirring the Cubs offense, leading in every major category. Colin Rea is set to take the ball, and he’s been pretty steady at home—look for him to give six innings or so, with a few runners reaching but not a ton of damage. Around Crow-Armstrong, guys like Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki are a headache on the basepaths and are more than capable of turning a walk or single into a run with their speed and aggressive baserunning. With Rea’s consistency and this offense clicking, there’s real potential for the Cubs to put up numbers early.
All things considered, it feels like the deck is stacked for the Cubs. The White Sox have the odds and history working against them, and with a lineup that’s struggled to string together hits, their margin for error is thin. The Cubs just have too much firepower in both the lineup and bullpen, and playing at Wrigley only boosts their confidence. Unless something truly unexpected happens, I like the Cubs to keep the good times rolling and send the White Sox packing with another tough road loss. What about you—can you see any path where Chicago’s South Siders flip the script?
