Braves vs Nationals predictions
Looking ahead to Game 2, all eyes will be on the Atlanta Braves’ lineup as they look to even up the series against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. I’ve got my eye on Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson to deliver some pop—both have been known to rise to the occasion, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Olson sneak one over the fence again while Ozuna is a safe bet for some clutch RBIs. Austin Riley has been steady all year with that .283 average, so expect him to keep finding holes in the defense and set the table for the heart of the order. And if you’re looking for a sleeper pick, keep tabs on Michael Harris—his knack for putting the ball in play could easily translate into a multi-hit night. On the mound, AJ Smith-Shawver’s calm under pressure is tough to ignore; he should be able to hold the Nationals’ bats in check for at least five solid innings, in my opinion.
On the flip side, Washington’s youthful lineup seems to be trending up. James Wood's power is just electric—don’t be shocked if he adds another home run to his season tally and drives in a couple of big runs. CJ Abrams is quietly putting together a monster year at the plate, and with his speed, he’s always a threat to turn a single into extra bases or swipe a bag when the Braves aren’t looking. I’d also keep an eye on Nathaniel Lowe in RBI spots; he’s got a chance to cash in especially if Abrams and Wood set the table early. Trevor Williams, taking the ball for the Nats, has shown flashes of brilliance and could keep things tight in the early frames, though the Braves’ lineup is never easy to navigate.
When it comes down to it, this one feels like it could swing either way, but with the Nationals carrying a 1-0 series edge and playing at home, I’d lean toward them keeping the momentum rolling. Their balance of speed, sneaky power, and some home cooking just might be enough to sneak past the Braves for the second straight game. That’s not to count out Atlanta, though – if their bats get hot early, things could get wild in a hurry. But for tonight? I’ll give the slight edge to Washington to pull this one out. What do you think—are you rolling with the surging Nats or backing the Braves for the bounce back?
