Athletics vs Royals predictions
When you look at what the Athletics are bringing to the table, a couple of hitters stand out as possible difference-makers. Jacob Wilson has been seeing the ball incredibly well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he notches another multi-hit game, given he’s been flirting with a .370 average. Brent Rooker, with his power stroke, seems primed for either a big double in the gap or even a home run if Michael Lorenzen leaves something over the plate. Pitching-wise, Jacob Lopez might rack up some strikeouts—he’s flashed strikeout stuff before—but he’ll have to manage his walks and keep the ball in the park to give the A’s a real shot, especially on the road.
On the Kansas City Royals side, this could be a nice spot for Maikel Garcia to keep the line moving with his consistent contact, picking up a couple of hits and maybe even swiping a bag if he gets on. Vinnie Pasquantino is also a threat in the middle of the order—look for him to possibly drive in a run or two, especially if Bobby Witt Jr. gets on base ahead of him. Let’s not forget Salvador Perez, who seems due for a big knock, and with Lorenzen on the mound, the Royals’ pitching should keep them in this one as long as he works around the likes of Rooker and Soderstrom.
All things considered, this feels like a spot where Kansas City snaps out of its funk. Even though the Athletics have guys who can mash and Wilson’s bat is scorching, the Royals’ mix of timely hitting and home-field advantage at Kauffman gives them the edge. I’m backing the Royals to handle business and get back in the win column in a close, hard-fought game. What’s your call—can KC shake off their recent slide, or do the A’s play spoiler again?
