Blue Jays vs Phillies predictions
If you’re looking at the Toronto Blue Jays roster for game 2, there are definitely a few names worth keeping an eye on. Bo Bichette is likely to come up big with his bat, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get on base a couple of times and drive in at least one key run. Alejandro Kirk, who’s been swinging a hot bat all season, is a strong candidate to post a multi-hit night—his steady contact could keep innings alive when it matters most. Then there’s George Springer; he’s always a threat to go deep or spark a big inning, and I’d bet on him contributing both a timely hit and some scrappy play in the outfield. Bowden Francis appears set to get the start, and while he has some strikeout potential, the Phillies’ dangerous lineup will challenge him for every out.
On the Philadelphia Phillies side, it’s tough not to highlight Kyle Schwarber, especially considering the tear he’s been on with the long ball. He’s shaping up to be the centerpiece of the Phillies’ offense again and I could easily see him adding to his home run tally—maybe even being the difference-maker if the game stays close. Trea Turner, always a spark plug at the top of the order, is bound to create headaches for Toronto’s pitching and defense. Expect him to set the tone early, leg out a couple of base hits, and maybe swipe a bag or two. Cristopher Sanchez is the probable starter, and with the way he’s been handling opposing hitters lately, he looks poised to give the Phillies a quality start and keep those Blue Jays power bats in check.
Looking at both squads, Citizens Bank Park should be buzzing with energy for this matchup. The Phillies have been especially tough to beat at home, and with their combination of power and on-base ability, they seem to have a slight edge. Toronto has the tools to make it interesting, but if Philly’s top bats get rolling early and Sanchez settles in on the mound, I like the Phillies’ chances to take game 2 of the series. The home crowd, hot bats, and a reliable arm might just be the difference tonight.
