Nationals vs Mets predictions
When you look at the Washington Nationals lineup heading into this matchup, there are a couple of names worth keeping your eye on. James Wood has been on a bit of a tear lately, sporting an impressive .274 batting average with 16 home runs—so don’t be surprised if he continues to put the ball in play, maybe even sneaking in a long ball or an RBI or two tonight. CJ Abrams is another guy who could chip in; he’s got the speed and the instincts to swipe a base, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he grabbed a hit or even scored a run with some smart baserunning. Michael Soroka draws the start on the mound, and while he can rack up a handful of strikeouts if his stuff is working, he’ll need to avoid those big innings if he wants to keep the Nationals in this one.
Now, switching things over to the New York Mets, the lineup really looks locked in right now, especially with the bats heating up at Citi Field. Pete Alonso is carrying the offense—you can pretty much pencil him in for a couple of hits, and with his power swing lately, a home run isn’t out of the question. Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor have also been delivering at the top and middle of the order, drawing walks and getting on base to set the table and keep the pressure on. On the bump, Kodai Senga projects to be a tough assignment for the Nats hitters, mixing in those signature strikeouts and generally making life tough for anyone who steps into the box.
So, considering how things are shaping up, it’s hard not to lean toward the Mets—especially with this five-game home win streak and that electric energy they’ve got at Citi Field. Momentum is on New York’s side, the bats are clicking, and with a consistent arm like Senga taking the hill, the stage is set for the Mets to add another W. But hey, anything can happen in baseball, right? Let’s see if the Nationals can play spoiler, or if the Mets keep rolling at home.
