Rockies vs Cubs predictions
When you look at the Colorado Rockies lineup heading into Wrigley, there are a few guys who’ve been bright spots in what's otherwise been a tough season. I’m watching Hunter Goodman, who leads the team in both batting average and RBIs—he looks poised to tack on a couple more hits, maybe even drive in a run if the Rockies can string something together. Jordan Beck’s got some pop with eight homers so far, so don’t be surprised if he’s the guy taking a big swing, even if strikeouts continue to haunt him. On the mound, Tanner Gordon gets the ball, and while his starts haven’t really been lights-out, I could see him grinding through four to five innings and keeping the score from getting too lopsided. Maybe he’ll surprise us with a couple of key punchouts.
Over on the Chicago Cubs side, it’s honestly a whole different vibe. Nico Hoerner has been steady all season, and with that .292 average, I’m expecting him to reach base multiple times and maybe swipe a bag or two. Then there’s Seiya Suzuki—already with 14 home runs and 50 RBIs—who just keeps mashing. Don’t be shocked if he launches another ball into the Wrigley bleachers and gives the fans something more to cheer about. Matthew Boyd is getting the start on the mound; the way he’s been pitching, six or seven strikeouts could easily be on the table, and I’d bet he keeps the Rockies’ bats pretty quiet. The bottom line? The Cubs have been getting production from all over the lineup, and guys like Ian Happ and Pete Crow-Armstrong just add to that firepower.
So who’s taking this one? It’s tough not to lean heavily toward the Cubs, especially playing at home and riding a ton of momentum compared to a Rockies squad that just hasn’t found its groove this year. Chicago’s lineup is deep and explosive, and if Boyd delivers another solid outing on the mound, runs are probably going to be tough for Colorado to manufacture. Maybe the Rockies hang in there for a bit, but by the time those late innings roll around, I expect the Cubs to break it open and send their fans home happy. What do you think—could the Rockies pull off a shocking upset, or is this just another strong W for Chicago?
