Dream vs Liberty predictions
Fresh off that eye-popping 32-point performance from Allisha Gray, Atlanta Dream fans have every reason to be excited. Gray’s offensive spark is exactly what the Dream need rolling into Barclays Center. I’d expect her to take that confidence and push for another big scoring night, maybe posting something in the mid-20s, especially since New York’s defense has had trouble containing dynamic guards in spots this year. Then there’s Rhyne Howard, who’s been a steady hand with her playmaking—if Atlanta aims to keep pace, she’ll likely dish out at least five assists and be a creative force from start to finish. Meanwhile, Brionna Jones’ hustle on the boards shouldn’t be underestimated; if she can grab double-digit rebounds, Atlanta will give themselves a solid chance at second-chance points and extra possessions.
On the other side, the New York Liberty have shown why they own one of the league’s top records so far, and a big part of that is their balance. Breanna Stewart might not have lit up the scoreboard the way Gray did last game, but Stewart’s versatility makes her a threat all over. I’d look for her to flirt with a 20-point night while contributing across the stat sheet with rebounds, blocks, and maybe a few timely steals. Natasha Cloud’s quick decision-making has made her the engine of this offense, and you can just tell she’s dialed in for another six or seven assists, spacing the floor and finding the open shooter. The wild card is Jonquel Jones—her day-to-day status adds a touch of mystery. If she’s able to go, you can just picture her controlling the paint and cleaning up the glass, a real difference-maker against Atlanta’s front line.
With both teams sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference and this one doubling as a Commissioner’s Cup matchup, things are about to get heated. The Dream have been awesome on the road, but New York’s undefeated home record at Barclays Center isn’t something to gloss over. What might tip the scales is the Liberty’s depth and their ability to lock down defensively when it really counts. Atlanta will be in it for all four quarters, but I’m leaning toward New York pulling out a hard-fought win at home, keeping that streak alive and making another statement in the WNBA’s power rankings. What do you think—will Atlanta’s stars spoil the party, or does Liberty’s home magic continue?
