Braves vs Phillies predictions
Let’s talk about what might be in store for the Braves as they roll into Citizens Bank Park for Game 2 of this doubleheader. With Chris Sale on the hill, Atlanta should have a fighting chance to keep things close for at least five solid innings—he's been racking up strikeouts, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him grab six or seven more here. Offensively, watch for Marcell Ozuna to keep swinging a steady bat, picking up another hit or two and possibly driving in a run. Matt Olson, as usual, looks primed to add to his home run tally—he’s got the pop and you never know which at-bat that swing will connect. Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris II are always a threat on the basepaths and with the bat, so expect them to help spark some run production as well, even if it means grinding out singles and drawing walks.
The Phillies, on the flip side, have some red-hot hitters ready to go, especially with Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber anchoring the top of the order. Turner could absolutely notch a couple of hits and swipe a base, and Schwarber’s power is always a storyline, particularly at home where he’s been known to deposit a ball or two in the stands. Don’t sleep on Alec Bohm either—this guy is seriously underrated when it comes to getting on base and keeping innings alive, so I expect him to come through with at least one timely hit, maybe a double. Bryce Harper also feels due for a big moment—it just seems like every time the Phillies play in a meaningful game, he finds a way to make an impact, whether it’s a clutch RBI or a walk that sparks a rally.
Looking at the way both squads are trending, and considering how strong the Phillies have been at home, I’ve got a good feeling about Philadelphia edging this one out. Their bats have been lively, and with Zack Wheeler on the mound to counter Chris Sale, there’s a decent chance Philly can contain Atlanta’s offense just enough to sneak away with the win. The Braves have the firepower to keep it tight, but if the Phillies’ top hitters keep rolling and Wheeler brings his A-game, I like their chances to take the series lead after this matchup.
